The primary function of packaging

  • Protect the product from any damages
  • Increase attractiveness to customers

An exaggerated and excessive package is quite outdated. Bauhaus and minimalism have silently changed the public aesthetic. Applying new materials like bamboo or bamboo fiber into products can add value to products, the eco 100% biodegradable material catering to eco-consensus customers in the cosmetic industry.

Innovative design approaches

Design thinking methods used by packaging designers: Emphasize→Define→Ideate→Prototype

  • Material

Types of bamboo are carefully selected by the industry. For industry production, the species of bamboo must be very common and growing fast. As the fastest-growing plant on earth, the recorded growth rate of bamboo can be one meter per day. One acre bamboo forest absorbs CO2 of around 17 average urban residents’ one-year emission.

  • Technique

Instead of direct processing of raw bamboo material, the coiling technique is introduced to form bending bamboo into flat pieces and then made into blocks and glued. After the process, bamboo can form a curve and keep it.

  • Visual concept

By making sketches of each packaging category, and working on continuously iterating considering the functions and production difficulties, the sketches are turned into detailed designs.

Bamboo design implementation on cosmetic packaging

  • The bamboo fiber used in the paper box
  • Compact shape powder case
  • Laminated bamboo for a durable structure like a dispenser
  • Tube for creams
  • Storage box for cosmetics
  • Case for lipstick, eyeshaow or mascara
